What is a Mentor?Business Coaching, much more than just consulting![]() A Mentor facilitates the personal and professional growth of someone else by sharing the knowledge and insights learned from long personal experience. A Mentor gives advice; in fact, a strong desire to share "life's experiences" marks a worthy Mentor. A Mentor is supportive, patient and respected. A Mentor will fulfil one or all of the following roles: teacher, guide, counsellor, motivator, sponsor, advisor, referral agent/door opener and role model. Mentoring is a one-on-one partnership linking an experienced person with a less experienced person. The success of this relationship depends on how well the Mentoring relationship is defined initially. Mentoring is not Business Coaching. A Business Coach may not have business expertise and experience in the same areas as the client, however Business Coaching is more structured than Mentoring. "Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction." John C. Crosby
